Home Care FAQ
Straight answers about non-medical home care, costs, caregivers and getting started. Don't see your question? Call (781) 243-4191.
What's the difference between home care and home health care?
Home care, which PureHeart provides, is non-medical help with daily life: bathing, dressing, meals, companionship and supervision. Home health care is skilled nursing or therapy ordered by a doctor.
What areas do you serve?
We serve families across Southern Massachusetts and the South Shore. Call (781) 243-4191 and we'll confirm whether your town is in our area.
What is the minimum number of hours?
Our care plans start at 20 hours a week. We focus on ongoing, consistent care, so your loved one has a familiar caregiver and a steady routine.
Do you offer occasional or one-time visits?
No. PureHeart provides ongoing care, with plans starting at 20 hours a week. If you only need an occasional visit or a one-time service, we're probably not the right fit.
How do you pay for care?
Families pay privately or with the help of a long-term care insurance policy. We don't currently accept Medicaid or Medicare. We'll explain our rates clearly during your free consultation.
What happens at the assessment?
Our care assessment specialist visits your loved one at home to understand their needs, routines and preferences, and to make sure we can safely provide the care they need. If they need more than a non-medical agency can offer, we'll tell you.
How do you choose caregivers?
Every caregiver is screened and background-checked, and we match them with your loved one based on skills, personality and schedule.
Do your caregivers give medication or do wound care?
No. We are a non-medical agency. Our caregivers do not administer medications or provide wound care or nursing treatments.
I am a caregiver looking for work. How do I apply?
Please apply on our Join Our Team page. The family contact form is only for families looking for care.
Do you work with long-term care insurance?
Yes. We welcome clients who have long-term care insurance, and we can provide the documentation and invoices needed for eligible insurance claims. Benefits depend on each person's individual policy, so we can't guarantee coverage.
Will my long-term care insurance policy cover PureHeart?
That depends on your individual policy. Your insurance company decides what is covered, so we recommend calling them before care begins. We are glad to provide the documentation and invoices they ask for.
Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?
No. We don't currently accept Medicare or Medicaid. Medicare generally doesn't pay for ongoing non-medical home care.
Is companion care the same as personal care?
No. Companion care is company, activities and help around the house. Personal care adds hands-on help with bathing, dressing and using the bathroom. Many families combine the two.
How many hours do I need?
Our care plans start at 20 hours a week. During your free consultation we will help you work out a schedule that fits your loved one.
Do your caregivers give medications?
No. PureHeart is a non-medical agency, so our caregivers do not administer medications or provide wound care or nursing treatments.
Can we choose the time of day for bathing?
Yes. Care follows your loved one's routine. Tell us what they prefer and we plan around it.
Is housekeeping available on its own?
Housekeeping is part of in-home care, alongside companionship and personal care. It is not a standalone cleaning service.
Can caregivers follow a special diet?
Yes. Tell us about any diet or food preferences at the consultation and your caregiver will follow them.
How is respite care scheduled?
Respite care follows the same care plan as our other services, starting at 20 hours a week. We schedule it around the times you need coverage.
Will my loved one see the same caregiver?
We work hard to keep the same caregiver with each family, because familiarity matters.
Do you accept MassHealth or state programs?
Not at this time. Families pay privately or with the help of a long-term care insurance policy. We'll explain our rates clearly during your free consultation.
Can care be adjusted over time?
Yes. Care plans are reviewed and can change as needs change.
How quickly can care start after discharge?
Call us as soon as you know a discharge date. Our care assessment specialist will arrange an in-home assessment, and we will plan care around the day your loved one comes home.
Is this the same as home health care?
No. Home health care is medical care ordered by a doctor. We provide the non-medical help with daily life that often goes alongside it.
No questions match that. Please call (781) 243-4191 and we'll answer it personally.
